Marine Protected Areas of North Sardinia: Tavolara, Maddalena Archipelago and the Gulf of Orosei

Protected Marine Park of Tavolara – Punta Coda Cavallo

The protected marine park of Tavolara – Punta Coda Cavallo stretches out for ca. 40 kilometers along the coast of North Sardinia and is considered one of the most beautiful marine parks of Sardinia. Capo Ceraso, Cala Finocchi and San Teodoro in the South with a lot of beaches and bays, the islands of TavolaraDragoMolara, Molarotto, Piana and Cavallo belong to the protected area. You can make a guided boat trip starting from Porto San Paolo or hire a rubber dinghy to reach the islands.

Maddalena Archipelago National Park

The marine protected park stretches out for ca. 80 kilometers and consists of ca. 60 islands. It is considered one of the most suggestive landscapes in the world, characterised by acquamarine water and islands with spectacular granit rock formations like the rock “l’Orso” and “la strega di Cala Corsara”. You can make a guided boat trip starting from Palau, La Maddalena or Porto Rotondo or hire a rubber dinghy to visit the Arcipelago. Enjoy a guided, one day boat trip visiting the small town of Maddalena and the beaches of Cala Corsara, Spiaggia Rosa, Budelli, Manto della Madonna, Cala Coticciu.

The National Park Gulf of Orosei and Gennargentu

The National Park Gulf of Orosei and Gennargentu covers a vast area from the mountains of Gennargentu to the marine protected park Golfo di Orosei. You can visit the Gulf of Oroseoi by car, some of the 22 beaches and bays are only reachable by boat. You have to see the beach of Bidderosa, Cala Luna, Cala Mariolu and Goloritze with white sand, azure blue water and white calcar rocks. In the marine cave Grotta del Bue Marino, where once the monk seal used to find refuge you can admire the fascinating stalactites and stalagmites.
