Things to see in North Sardinia 5th part | The Costa Smeralda

Porto Cervo: History, Places, Beaches of the exclusive holiday village in Sardinia!

It was way back in 1960 when Karim Aga Khan, a Muslim prince ismaelita with British citizenship, heard of an island called Sardinia and characterised by coasts with beautiful seas and unspoiled nature. But once reached the destination he said “I found Sardinia much more beautiful and peaceful than they had told me” .

And so was born the Consorzio Costa Smeralda by an idea of that prince who felt in love so much for those inlets, that nature and that sea to build the famous Porto Cervo, the exclusive holidays destination of the most rich people of the world. Porto Cervo is built in an area called “Monti di Mola” from the hills until the sea with its old port and new port. The main feature of Porto Cervo is architecture.Great architects, employed by the prince, have built a village perfectly fused with the surrounding nature. Monumental and exemplary is the church of Stella Marislocated on the hill of the new port of Porto Cervo and was built by the architect Busiri Vici respecting the surrounding nature.

The Beaches

Today the Costa Smeralda includes 55km of coast from Porto Cervo to Porto Rotondo. The beaches are all spectacular. It starts with the famous prince beach (the most loved by the Prince Aga Khan) characterised by crystal clear sea and pink granite; Romazzino, Capriccioli, La Celvia, Liscia di Vacca, all beaches of rare beauty with shallow waters suitable for everyone. Costa Smeralda is also Olbia with the beaches of Liscia Ruja, Rena Bianca (the beach of Portisco, tourist village between Olbia and Porto Cervo) also these beautiful and also Porto Rotondo with the famous beaches of Marinella and Ira.
